Joanie Winberg

Is your family’s laundry an albatross around your neck?

When and if you venture into your kids’ rooms, do you see a sea of clothing, wet moldy towels, science experiments growing on and around your beautiful set of kitchen dishes?

Is it so horrifying that you would rather watch a the latest Stephen King film, than open that door?

And to top it off, do you have to beg, threaten and coerce to get your kids to hand over their dirty clothing so that YOU can wash them? Once you give it back, neatly folded, stacked and “clean”, does it join the ranks of crumpled and moldy before your child has put it on?

Did you know that you can solve this problem by outsourcing? And it won’t cost you a penny!

Here’s how to do it:

•Purchase two laundry baskets for each child: one white and one other color and place inside their rooms.

• Write out easy to understand instructions for your laundry machine and dryer and tape them to the front of your machines.

Setting Your Goals — The Power of Focus!

June 26, 2008

Hello, My goal as the founder of the Fresh Start after Divorce Community is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you during and after divorce. I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve. Today, I am excited to share 10 powerful tips to help with goal setting from one of the Entrepreneur Experts for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Hayley Solich.

Enjoy,
Joanie Winberg

Setting Your Goals- The Power of Focus

According to the Encarta online dictionary, goal means aim, something that somebody wants to achieve. The question is, how do you know what to aim for — what to focus on - and how do you know when you have achieved it?

It is easy to have many ideas but goals are the process by which you are able to focus those ideas to make them achievable. Focus is an amazing gift in our toolbox for life. It is the ability to narrow things down to a single point and to concentrate all of our energy and resources in that direction. It is also the ability to see things clearly. When our focus is divided, our lives are in constant turmoil and our “vision” blurred. However, when focused, our dreams are achievable. Focus is a power enabler. Here are the main points why goal setting is a good idea in gaining and maintaining focus to enable you to fulfill your dreams:

1. Knowing where you are heading empowers you. If you can see the finish line, you know exactly how much effort is required for you to cross it and that is empowering.

2. Recording your goals also empowers you. By writing them down and giving them a timeframe to make them measurable, you go through the mental process of figuring out exactly what you are going to need to achieve them. Assigning a date by which to achieve your goals helps to apply the pressure necessary to motivate you to action.

3. Visualizing your goal in your mind helps you to adopt the mental attitude necessary to achieve your goal. Imagine yourself doing whatever your goal is. The clearer you can see it in your mind, the more achievable it will become.

Today’s quote
“Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.”
~anonymous

Today’s tip-

When you see a butterfly, our thoughts may be…what a beautiful creature! How wonderful to fly about freely, bringing beauty to whomever’s path it crosses. We don’t think about the journey that butterfly took to become this awesome display of nature.

This butterfly was once a creeping and colorless caterpillar. Who, may or may not survive harsh weather, a landscaper’s freewheeling tool or just simply the process it must undergo to become that beautiful butterfly.

And that cocoon- some say how they wish they could be in a cocoon. They see it as a “safe” place, a warm and comforting place. But, like the butterfly of this quote, it could also be construed as a dark place, a lonely place, wondering how long before the “light” shines through.

The hope of becoming that beautiful butterfly can inspire. If a little caterpillar can transform into a beautiful butterfly- what are our possibilities? The “transformation” part may be difficult. It may be a quick transformation, it may take longer.

BE PATIENT! Like a butterfly, there is beauty in all of us. When you shed your cocoon and spread your beautiful wings, the world will be waiting.

Until next week, have a Happy Wednesday!

Why Divorce Mediation?

June 24, 2008

Hello,

As founder of the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, my goal is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you during and after divorce. I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve.

Today, I am excited to introduce the Peaceful Divorce Expert for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Belinda Rachman, Esq..

Enjoy,
Joanie Winberg

Why Divorce Mediation?

You are thinking of divorce and worrying about how your children will fare. It is your job to protect them and you can chose to have a peaceful divorce. A mind works best, like a parachute, when it is open. There are very creative ways to divide property and to share children if both parties keep their eye on the prize, the well being of the children. They didn’t ask for this drama and it is possible to shield them if the two of you work at it. The idea of “working at it” may sound odd to a couple who is about to break up just because their relationship isn’t “working” but if you have children together your job will never end. There will be weddings and grandchildren and holidays for the rest of your life. If you start World War III now, with the kids caught in the middle, they are going to have to do a lot of duck and cover as your verbal bullets whiz over their heads.

Take a step back and focus on the children. No matter what perceived wrongs may or may not have happened to you, this is where you are right now and playing the blame game may make you feel better but it is not productive. A little rational thought instead of playing victim to your own feelings is what is needed most right now. The more you focus on anger, the more anger you will feel. Focus on the children now instead. Which of you has been the primary caretaker of the children? Spousal and child support is usually not enough to maintain the life to which you have become accustomed which means stay at home parents will have to go to work. So if both of you are working then you really get a chance to look at a shared custody situation. It is hard to raise a child alone. Sometimes you really need a break for your own sake.

After Divorce- 3 Ways to Rediscover Your True Passion

June 23, 2008

During and after a divorce is a very challenging time in a woman’s life. It is suggested that you use this precious opportunity to rediscover yourself. Think of this time in your life as an adventure to explore the real you.

This will help all women through the emotional roller coaster ride of divorce, even for celebrities such as like Christie Brinkley, who is facing a challenging divorce.

After Divorce- 3 Ways to Rediscover Your True Passion

1) What Makes Your Heart Sing?

What really matters to you? What do you feel is your true purpose in life? If someone asked you that question, how would you answer them?
Why is it so important to be clear on what your life’s purpose is? Knowing your purpose, will give you a true sense of who you are and why you were put on this earth. It gives your life direction and helps you make clear and easy decisions concerning that direction. It’s your compass! Without a purpose, can your life be compared to a piece of driftwood? Floating endlessly in whichever direction the tide decides to take it and ending up on any beach with no will of its’ own.
Take this time to focus on what really matters to you. Feel the true passions that exist in your heart and write them down.

2) What Are Your Vibes Saying About You?
Are you familiar with the Law of Attraction? Maybe you have heard the expressions, “What you think about, you bring about” or “The more attention you give to something, the more attention it will give to you.” When going through a divorce, your emotions can be compared to a roller coaster ride. Use this time to become reconnected to your inner awareness of who you are. Learn to sit still and quiet until you understand what emotions you are feeling. Realize that your feelings and sensations are okay, then learn to listen to what your mind and body are telling you.

3) Be True To Yourself
During and even after a divorce, we are often filled with doubts. We question ourselves about what is right, what to do or how we feel. Should I or shouldn’t I? It seems difficult to make a decision. Listen to your heart. What feels right? What doesn’t feel quite right? If a situation does not feel right, honor your resistance by pausing or waiting. Sometimes waiting is the best thing to do. By waiting you may have allowed the situation to unfold more easily without having to worry! If a decision feels good or right, usually that means you are heading in the right direction. When we listen to our hearts, we are in integrity with ourselves. When we are in integrity with ourselves, we learn to say NO more easily.
Divorce is not easy or fun and you can make it through this time of your life by realizing you WILL make it! Also, honor yourself and listen to your heart! Your true purpose and passions are waiting to be rediscovered within you! When you have discovered the “gold nugget” you already are, you will start to live your life with more ease and enjoy the feeling of peace. “You are truly free!”

5 Ways to Cash In on Your Feminine Strengths

June 21, 2008

Hello from Joanie Winberg, the Founder of the Fresh Start After Divorce

Our goal for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you through the emotional roller coaster of divorce. I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve.

Today, I am excited to share with you very powerful tips from the Entrepreneur Expert for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Linda Hollander, Women in Business Coach.

5 Ways to Cash In on Your Feminine Strengths

You were born with the ability to make your dreams into reality. Being a woman is your base of power, not your weakness. Women entrepreneurs are the fastest growing segment of the economy. We are starting businesses at twice the rate of men and claiming our true economic power. It’s not because we’ve been held back for so long. It’s because we’re good at it. Here are some ways to cash in on your feminine strengths-

1. Nurture Your Clients Women are all about connections and relationships. From the time of birth, women are relationship-oriented. In business, this translates to nurturing clients, listening to their problems and providing great customer service. In sales, women are able to focus on helping others rather than pushing products. They ask poignant questions, learn their customer’s needs, and offer extraordinary solutions.

Embrace Life Transitions

June 11, 2008

Hello from Joanie Winberg, the Founder of the Fresh Start after Divorce

Our goal for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you through the emotional roller coaster of divorce. I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve. Today, I am excited to share with you very powerful tips from the Intuition Expert for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Lynn Robinson.

Embrace Life Transitions

Most of us would just love it if the Universe spoke to us in a clear, direct manner. “Hey Lynn! I know you’re struggling with a decision in your life. Here’s the answer…” Followed, of course, with detailed instructions about what I should and shouldn’t do in order to be successful. In the bible, God spoke to Moses from a burning bush. (I don’t know about you, but if a burning bush started yelling at me I’d definitely run in the other direction!) But truthfully, don’t you long for this kind of guidance when faced with indecision?

Our modern culture fosters a great deal of impatience. People want clear answers and they want them yesterday. In other times and civilizations there was respect for the process of change and respect for a person’s difficult choices. People understood that there was a correct time for actions and decisions. If you look to nature you can easily see the rhythm of life, the ebbs and flows of the ocean, the seasons of the year when leaves die off and let go and when they’re born anew in the spring.

Go With the Flow There is also a rhythm and flow to your life. Usually you experience an inner change or shift before the outer change begins to manifest. That is part of your inner guidance doing its work. You feel bored, restless, or anxious. Things are not working as well as they once were. These are signs from your inner guidance that you must make some new decisions and new choices in your life.

TOP 10 DATING DO’S.

June 9, 2008

Hello from Joanie Winberg, the Founder of the Fresh Start after Divorce

Our goal for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you through the emotional roller coaster of divorce.

I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve.

Today, I am excited to share with you very powerful tips from the Dating Expert for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Stephany Alexander.

Top 10 Dating Do’s

1. Do relax and have fun. Dating is supposed to be fun so make it fun. Choose activities that you both love so you can relax, laugh and enjoy. If you think dating is miserable, then don’t do it.

2. Do groom yourself before your date. Make sure you are freshly showered, have fresh breath and have an outfit on that flatters you. Save your crazy or overly sexy outfits for when you get to know the person better.

3. Do Listen. Listening is more important than talking. Ask your date lots of questions and hone in on similar interests. Don’t brag about yourself constantly because that is the ultimate turn-off.

4. Compliment your date. If you think your date looks nice, say so. Don’t focus on your date’s imperfections; focus on their good points. If it looks like your date took time to get ready, compliment them by letting them know.

ABUSED BY A FAMILY MEMBER: WHAT CAN I DO?

June 6, 2008

Hello from Joanie Winberg, the Founder of the Fresh Start after Divorce

Our goal for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community is to provide you with tools and techniques to support and encourage you through the emotional roller coaster of divorce.
I have hand-selected experts from across the country that are committed to help you move your life forward and live the life you desire and deserve.
Today, I am excited to share with you very powerful tips from one of the Family Law Experts for the Fresh Start after Divorce Community, Attorney Mark Greene.

ABUSED BY A FAMILY MEMBER: WHAT CAN I DO?

If you or your child are being abused or threatened with abuse by a family or household member, there is a law to help you: Chapter 209A of the General Laws of Massachusetts.A family or a household member as defined by Chapter 209A includes:

  • a current or former spouse
  • a current or former boyfriend or girlfriend or fiancee
  • a person who currently or formerly lived with you in the same household
  • a person related by blood
  • a person currently or formerly related by marriage
  • a person with whom you have a child in common, even if you have never married or lived with that person

Abuse as defined by Chapter 209A includes:

  • physical harm to you or an attempt to physically harm you
  • placing you in fear of imminent serious physical harm forcing you to engage in sex by force, threat or duress

How Chapter 209A worksYou may request protection from abuse by filling out an easy-to-understand form called a complaint. These forms are available in the Superior Court, the Boston Municipal Court, the Probate and Family Court and the District Court. If you request, the court can order that your address in the court file be kept confidential from the abuser and his or her attorney.

The court may protect you in a number of ways including, but not limited to:

  • ordering the abuser to stop abusing and/or contacting you or your child
  • ordering the abuser to move out of the household and remain away for up to one year (this time may be extended if needed)
  • ordering that you be given custody of, and paid support, for a minor child. In addition, the defendant also may have to pay for your shelter or emergency housing, loss of earnings or support, medical expenses, moving expenses, property damage and reasonable attorney’s fees.
  • the court usually orders that the abuser surrender firearms, identification cards and permits.
