It's not criticism, it's just feedback...

People react differently when it comes to criticism. One of my students said it best, "I don't care even if it is constructive criticism; there is nothing good about being criticized!" It is often very difficult to react positively when someone whom you love, or whom you are working for, gives you some good ole fashion criticism. That's why it is important to shift your attitude when it comes to criticism and see it as nothing more than feedback or input to help you be more successful.

 Say it with me... It is not criticism (ATTITUDE SHIFT) it is just feedback.

 The new prerecorded message of feedback for success will help you be open to the suggestions of others. The old message sounded like this, "At the beep please leave your criticism and I will respond immediately with hurt feelings, denial, blame or even anger." We can all agree that negative emotions and feelings hamper our ability to move forward effectively in life.        

So, from now on, see criticism as it was originally defined, the ability to see all the sides, angles, and possibilities of a given situation. What if you and I were more open to all of the possibilities of how to reach our goals? What if someone close to you could see something you couldn't see? What if how they saw the world helped you be more effective? More productive? Now I see the ATTITUDE SHIFT - it's not personal, it's not criticism; it's just feedback to help me be the best that I can be!

 
Wouldn't it be great if our children could have this fresh perspective about criticism / feedback?
