Sensuality & Pleasure Does the Body GOOD!
Debra Smith “The Sensuality Sage”

I have found over the years that sensuality and pleasure are two of the first things to go when we become overly stressed, too busy, our relationships end and we find ourselves single again. I want you to pay close attention to this next statement…
Pleasure and sensuality are very important and beneficial to becoming healthy and to remaining healthy. We need them everyday. Pleasure can be as simple as fresh flowers in your bathroom and bedroom, or a piece of dark chocolate with a hot cup of tea in the evening (2 of my favorites) or taking time to really enjoy the sunset, or a leisurely walk in the park. When I talk of sensuality it's about noticing the smell of those fresh flowers in your room, letting the chocolate melt slowly on your tongue, the feel of the breeze upon your skin, a warm bath with essential oils, or the soft, sensuous feeling of your hands caressing your breasts, abdomen and clitoris.

It's very important during times of stress, loss, with or without a relationship that we remember to have pleasure.  Pleasure releases a chemical called nitric oxide from the lining of our blood vessels.  This amazing molecule is literally the “igniter of life”. High levels of it are produced by a healthy, pleasurable lifestyle, including pleasurable thoughts and experiences. When nitric oxide or NO is produced, it causes the smooth muscles in the walls of your blood vessels to relax. When those muscles are relaxed, the blood vessels open or widen, allowing more life-supporting oxygen and other nutrients to get to your heart, brain, breasts, vagina and all of your other organs.  The circulation throughout your entire body improves.

It's so important between relationships to take the time to self pleasure, because orgasms are also accompanied by a large burst of health- giving nitric oxide.  The high nitric oxide levels result in increased levels of feel-good chemicals like serotonin and beta endorphin (a natural, morphine-like substance produced by all things pleasurable).  Self pleasuring also keeps us intimately connected to our bodies.

The safe, healthy, and effective ways to create high levels of nitric oxide and beta endorphin (as well as serotonin, and dopamine), include regular pleasurable exercise, massage, dancing, gardening, walks on the beach, meditation, and of course orgasms. In fact anything that makes you feel good, excited or energized works well. (Like volunteering for your favorite cause or charity, but only if you feel good volunteering not if you're stressed out by adding one more thing to your already too busy life)
So ladies I highly recommend that you make time to be sensual and enjoy pleasure. Your health depends on it!

What Ever Happened To My Sensual/Sexual Desire and Why Don't I Care?

What is happening to our feminine desire?

What I've learned from years of listening to heartfelt stories from women of all ages, and all walks of life, is that the lack of desire stems from many factors.

For the majority of women who come to me for coaching, one of the major reasons for their lack of desire is that that they never had a deep personal connection to or enjoyment of their sensual selves to begin with. It might surprise you to know just how many women have never fully embraced their sensuality and enjoyed it to its fullest potential.

Women often confide that sex has been more of a duty, something expected of them or a way to entice and get a man to marry them, and then a way to keep their man. Sometimes it's even about acceptance and security. These are just a few of the reasons my clients say they are having sex. So, after years of pretense and unsatisfying sex, is it any wonder that some women lose their desire all together?

As women hit peri-menopause, our progesterone and then testosterone levels begin to decrease and fluctuate. This is when a large portion of women tell me they could care less about sex. However, the pressure to be sensual and sexual is still there, especially if we are married and our partner wants a satisfying sexual relationship.

Another factor in our lack of desire is being “just plain old tired.” This has a lot to do with how we handle stress, not getting enough sleep, if we have burned out our adrenal glands, lack of good nutrition, exercise and pleasure, the medications we're on and our declining hormones after the age of 40.

Sound pretty dismal? Well I'm here to say…and I'm proof positive, that there is hope. There are several solutions to recovering and embracing your feminine sensual/sexual desire.

1. See an informed, open minded physician that knows the latest natural and bio-identical hormone solutions and information. Get a blood or saliva test that tests all your hormones and adrenal glands.  Get your hormones in balance.
2. Take time for pleasure - warm bath, gardening, dancing, meditation, sensuality, yoga or whatever brings you joy and pleasure.
3. Get 8 hours of sleep.  I know if your hormones are out of balance this may be difficult until you balance your hormones.
4. Attend a workshop or get coaching that will assist you in celebrating and honoring your feminine sensual essence.
5. Love and appreciate your body just like it is today.
6. Think sexy, juicy, sensual thoughts. Feel sexy. Feel luscious. Feel beautiful. Feel confidant.

I know this for a fact - from my years of coaching and from what my male clients and friends tell me.  When women are confident in their sensuality and they act and feel sensual … THEY ARE SEXY period!  You don't have to have a perfect body; the most “beautiful” looks, the latest fashion, or even be young. You just need to own and celebrate your natural, divine, feminine sensual essence.
